Growing tree lilies are tall and the stalks are big, but they are not trees despite the name; they are herbaceous (non-woody) plants that die at the end of each growing season. A tree lily's average height is 4 feet, though some varieties maybe 5 to 6 feet high and sometimes higher. Usually, tree lilies are planted in the fall. Their roots will form in the spring and in the mid-summer they will bloom. Choosing a planting site with well-drained soil and receiving full to the part sun is critical.

After planting all the bulbs, thoroughly soak the region with water. Water as required as the plant grows and flourishes. Allow the remaining leaves to yellow and die back after the flowers have died. The leaves will keep gathering sunlight and making food for the flowers of next year.
Once the leaves have yellowed and dried, softly pulling it out of the soil can remove it. If the leaves don't pull off the bulb easily, they won't be ready to be removed. Your tree lily bulbs will be dormant and prepared to "rest" until next year after the leaves have been removed!
